STARING: Deal it like a BaWSSS.

Why read this post?

You might be highly aware of a persistent act in our society- "Annoying stare". Yes, the same stare that you have experienced by your milkman while coming out wearing shorts.
So, my sisters and their brothers, In this post, I'll be narrating a personal anecdote that you might have experienced at some in time, but brushed away because of the normalcy it has captured.
Also, I will discuss some methods to handle these cranky and contentious situations like a BAWSS.. [shoutout to superwoman]

Let's begin the conversation:

What is staring: The Bad One?

Simply put, when an eyeballing brings discomfort to you, that is termed as "Bad Stare". No Brainer. These stares can range from Cranky neighbour's stare to Distinct police's stare.

Reminiscing...
Some days back, I wore black half pant and white top to visit a certain place. I summoned the state-of-the-art rikshaw-- electronic rikshaw. As you know that it has two seats which face each other. So, I  hurriedly jumped on it. It didn't strike me until I put my phone down inside my bag that 2 men were continuously looking at my recently waxed legs. Their gaze seemed as if dogs have been given a bucket of chicken and are slobbering. Honestly, it gave extreme discomfort.

It is highly unfortunate that we have to suffer similar kinds of situations whenever we step out.

Where all can we experience these kinds of stare?

Staring can be experienced anywhere. Imagine the most sacred place and you would find a feeble-minded human staring at you.  There is no fixed pattern to these stares. Whether you wear a revealing bodycon or a burkha, you hold the potential to attract eyeballs, anywhere and everywhere.

Can we call staring " harassment"?

Staring - An innate human trait. Looking at someone is neither bad nor impermissible. A normal human being looks at another human being out of curiosity or out of sheer desire.

But at the same time, staring is not invariably innocuous. The definition can turnaround when the undertone of staring has an unacceptable connotation. When a mere stare can make another person shudder and think whether every piece of cloth is properly placed on their body or not. Such a situation can be termed as "harassment". It might not give one the physical pain but can exceedingly shrink their demeanour.

Time to walk the talk.

If you don't kill the devil, it will eventually kill you. Envisioning the world to change on its own is kinda idiotic. So, it would be intelligent to stop waiting for the change to greet you and to strike while the iron is hot.

We can deal with these situations like a Bawsss if we follow the following steps:

STEP 1:

Stare back with a deadpan face.

If the stare is persistent, then stop looking away. You are supposed to stare back with confidence, and with a blank face.

How will this help?
Step 1 will advance the idea that you are not meek about the stare. It will make people aware of you being aware of their action.

STEP 2:

Waggle your eyebrows.

If staring back doesn't discourage the act then you have to proceed with the next step. Here, you are making a non-verbal communication. Waggle your eyebrows with the same facial expression to express your irritation.

How will this help?
Step 2 is intended to reveal your discomfort. It will express that you are aware and at odds.

STEP 3:

Apna haath Jaganath (Use your hands)

If the above two steps don't bear fruit then it's time to use your hands. Make a hand gesture to intensify the situation. Use it at the heels of step 2.

How will it help?
Using hands in communication is a very powerful way to assert your position. Similarly, when a non- verbal communication is at play then hand gestures can make your position very vivid.

MASTER STROKE:

Perform all the steps, simultaneously.

  2. I totally agree women themselves are very much capable of dealing with these kind of incidents.. and in my opinion those people who tend do that so called "bad stare" are just a bunch of cowards who try to harass a girl thinking that they are the easy targets and they won't do anything in return.. all that you need to do is just pull yourself together and let them know whom they are dealing with.. and guarantee you they will never dare to do that again.. did a great work on this blog btw👍🏻
