Let's revisit history

It is chronicled that God Ram came back to Ayodhya, after doing away with the formidable Raavan, with her beloved Sita. In sheer happiness, people of Ayodhya lit thousands of diyas to welcome greatness.  Every single house was ornated with Deep's Jyoti. It was a magnificent way to demonstrate the notion that " Truth will always emerge powerful  "

In the backdrop, It also signifies that night is inevitable, but light can show supremacy over the darkness in every possible predicament. Since then, the reverent day is marked by the term "Deepawali or Diwali" and celebrated every year with lights.

What is the celebration like?

It is, hands down, one of the widely celebrated and loved festivals among Indians. The sheer wait starts as soon as winter air pays a visit. Hustling and bustling can be observed way before the intended day. The celebratory mood can be spotted at every corner. The market is set up with all kinds of decorative pieces, making it analogous to a bride-to-be. People clean and adorn their places with rangoli, lights and garlands. Moreover, It makes all the diabetic patients and sugar patients go nuts. Fairly because, laddoos, Kaju ki barfi, pede, jalebi are omnipresent. Nonetheless, it is among the most beautiful times of the year with colossal preparation across Bharat.

Fire-Crackers: Heart of Diwali

Historically, Diwali was the "Day of Light". But, with the introduction of fire-crackers, the connotation of Diwali has lent itself towards being the "Day of expansive Sound". Fire-crackers have completely turned around the tone of this festival. Distinctly, no scripture has a mentioning of firecrackers as a means of celebration. It is very recent that it has woven itself into the custom.

So, how did it enter our celebration customs?

Believe it or not, the concept of Fire-crackers is a Chinese-derived concept. They had a believe that loud sound and light will avert the evil. To their credit, Gun-powder was their baby. As we know that various foreigner rulers have put down their roots in India. Among them, Arabs are believed to inject India with the Chinese-concept of gunpowder. it, in later centuries, was further used as the main ingredient to develop Fireworks, which eventually gained currency.

The concept spread across the nation and was gracefully adopted.

What is so wrong about this gun-powdered packed matter?

Almost everything, besides aesthetics. On combustion, these releases a huge amount of gas and soot, which enters the living system of humans, animal, birds and affect adversely. The sound produced on lighting up irritates small insects and birds, can also lead to a seizure. The crackers whose remainings fall back on igniting has caused house or forest burn. Mishandling, furthermore, has lead severe body and eyes burn. Moreover, the smoke produced causes a hazy environment, which causes vehicle- collisions.

With such excessive negative facets, it continues to prevail in the Indian market.

What have we done about it?

Extermination of fireworks is impossible. So much so that government could not come up with a blanket ban rather has rolled out Green crackers. We, humans, are such a dimwit that even after having the acumen we can't just stop marketing it. The astuteness of humans is questionable. We save money to burn it. Adding fuel to fire, people have started to hold vanity in the intensity of the sound produced and the sky-area covered by their extravagant crackers. And funnily enough, they take a dig on the people who don't participate in "Gas-chamber" production.

The answer to the question- what have we done about it--> Propped it well enough.

What is the future?

It seems gloomy until we stop getting lured by its sparkles and stop giving it a vibe of unabashed vanity. Solely because the market will grow and prosper as long as the commodity is celebrated.

What is the immediate action that can be undertaken?

Envision a single cracker as a 500 rupees note. If I ask you to burn it with a matchstick, would you? No, definitely not, unless you are an infant, who sometimes swallows abandoned notes. Then why this hypocrisy. Just because the crackers, exchanged for 500 rupees, provide you fleeting happiness of twinkling sparks, you blindly go for it without giving heed to the consequences.

The action :

Replace the crackers with the amount it was brought for and ask yourself-- Would I ever burn it? If the answer is yes-- continue with the purchase. If the answer is no-- terminate it forever.

Let's not forget our history from where it all began. Sri Ram went Lanka to win-over the devil. The victory of light over dark. To hail it, we have been celebrating by igniting lights at night. But amidst the process, we are no longer veiling the dark by light, but making dark more prominent by the fumes.

That being said, we are becoming Raavan to the environment and to the fellow Indians.

Now, it's you who have to take the fair-call.
Which bearing would you like to echo?-- Ram's uprightness or Raavan's misconduct.
